Carousel

carousel
- 1673, from Fr. carrousel "a tilting match," from It. (Neapolitan dialect) carusiello "tournament in which players pelted one another with balls of chalk," orig. "chalk ball," from caruso "shaved head." The modern sense of carnival ride developed from notion of knights competing in a tournament in chariots or on horseback.
